Good Sleep
Good Sleep
For this project we had to design a layout for a gable box and the product is sleepwear. The parent company name was given and we were to come up with a product name. We can use up to 4 spot color or 4 color process for the color scheme of this project.
Who doesn’t want a good night sleep? This environmentally conscious pajama set is packaged in a Zen inspired gable box. Good Sleep had a need for packaging that reflected the comfort and sustainability of their sleepwear made from bamboo. The graphics show the bamboo along with a pattern inspired by a Zen sand garden. The color scheme of rich blue, brown, and green inspire a calmness that is seen and felt.
Design Process
Sketches & Doodles
The three concepts I came up with are Color Jamz that I designed to look like a box of crayons. Good Sleep is the echo friendly and sustainable sleepwear, I added a swirl pattern to try and replicate a sand garden and added an illustration of bamboo on the front. Nitefall my last design had a lot of constellations, the moon at different times of the month and an illustration of a sun.
Intermediates
I moved forward with the Color Jamz and Good Sleep. I thought I could really get some really fun and interesting patterns with these designs.
Research & Brainstorming
I searched the internet for gable boxes and types of sleepwear. When I was brainstorming types of sleepwear, I knew I wanted to create one that was sustainable and eco friendly.
Final Hand
I moved forward with good sleep as I really liked the pattern I had for the top part of the box. I also had most of the layout figured out. With the coloring pajamas I still had areas that needed to be filled with illustration or copy.
Color Studies
I had a lot of colors. Since the swirls were to represent a sand garden I chose yellow and brown which also worked well for the bamboo. I wanted to see the bamboo in green so I changed to a gold for the sand but really wasn’t feeling sure of those colors. I changed to blue. When I think of sleep I think blue. Add the blue and that’s what it needed to stand out.
