Magnet

Magnet

In this project we had to create a magnet set to be displayed on a hanging shelf.  This magnet was to be a figure of ourselves and our name was to be part of the headline.  There had to be at least three magnet accessories.

The Games Aileen Plays is a self portrait magnet set. This was to bring your personality to life with color and graphics. With a pun on words this title relates to actual games played by myself and friends.

Design Process

Sketches & Doodles

From the brainstorming I chose to go with a karaoke, sports, and games theme.  I came up with Aileen Rocks Karaoke, Aileen Plays Ball, and The Games Aileen Plays.  I have a lot of interest thinking of them I wear myself out!  What was challenging was picking three to five objects to also make into magnets.  The sport one was easy to pick the objects but I what I chose for the background made it difficult.  I really liked the background for the karaoke one but I seemed that the figure of myself was going to be the difficult part.  The games one was the best all around.

Intermediates

I moved forward with the sports theme and the games theme.  I like the headline for the game theme even though I didn't have a background sketched out. I knew I was going to go with a mixture of dice and cards and maybe picture that we had drawn on one of our game nights with friends.

Research & Brainstorming

I searched the internet and also looked at previous students work to get some inspiration on what my subjects where going to be.  I search paper dolls like suggested and also looked at magnets.  I like to collect magnets for the fridge of places I have been.  I also print favorite photos and add magnet to them for the fridge.

Final Hand

I moved forward with the games theme.  I created a pattern with dice, a picture from pictionary, and all of the suits from the cards.

Color Studies

I didn’t do a color study. Since this was to be all about me I knew I was going with a purple and maybe yellow. Turs out that orange was a better fit with the purple I chose and the rest was history!
